Shelby Jean Alford
March 4, 1937 – September 20, 2015
WENDELL – Shelby Jean Alford, 78, died Sunday. A native of Nash County she was daughter to the late Darner & Grace Bryant Alford. She taught nursery for 47 years at Wendell Baptist Church. Shelby Jean was a kind woman who was loved by many. She had a wonderful spirit and everyone who met her was truly blessed and better for it. Shelby Jean loved her family and cared for them all their lives. She was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph, Everett, & Norman Alford, & Alice Mentlewski.
Funeral service 11 am, Wednesday, Wendell Baptist Church with burial to follow in Greenmount Cemetery.
She is survived by her brothers, Ray Alford of Wendell, Fred Alford (MaryAnn) of Wendell, Katrina Smith (Lonnie) of Raleigh, Joyce Blackley (Charles) of Zebulon, sisters-in-law, Joyce Young Alford, Ann Alford & brother-in-law, Chet Mentlewski.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wendell Baptist Church, Funding the Future or to Transitions Life Care
Visitation 6:30-8:30 pm, Tuesday, Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W Third St., Wendell, and other times at Fred’s home.
