SARAH N. BRASHEAR

WENDELL – Sarah Jane Newbern Brashear, 83, died peacefully Saturday. A native of Bertie County, she was daughter to the late Marvin Cad & Aleatha Early Newbern. She graduated from Meredith College, Cum Laude, with a BS in Chemistry and Biology. She also received her Medical Technology degree from Rex Hospital. She was a strong, intelligent and caring woman. Sarah married Dr. Ralph Guy Brashear in 1956 and moved to Wendell in 1961. Together they opened Wendell Family Medical Center where Sarah served an integral and vital role through the duration of the practice. Sarah, along with Ralph, provided over 45 years of tireless and selfless dedication as she served her community with her education, training and gifts in medicine. Sarah will be remembered for her love of family, friends and her enjoyment of entertaining. She was very active in the Hoe ‘n Hope Garden Club, The Wendell Historical Society, The Wendell Chamber of Commerce and St. Eugene Catholic Church.
A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 11am on Tuesday, May 29th at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 608 Lions Club Road, Wendell.
Sarah is survived by her beloved husband of over 55 years, Dr. Ralph G. Brashear of the home, children: Beth Brashear Mobley (Jim) of the home; Amy Brashear Watson (Mark) of Pinehurst; Ralph Guy Brashear, Jr. (Terri) of Surf City; grandchildren, Cad Castleberry (Jenny), Lacey Castleberry, Maggie Watson, Nicholas Watson, Laney Watson and beloved pet, Barbi. Special caregivers Gwen Powell and James Walton.
Visitation from 5pm-8pm, Monday at The Brashear home: 28 Fowlkes St., Wendell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Eugene Catholic Church Building Fund or the Hoe ‘n Hope Garden Club, 850 E. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591.
