Robert Alfred Lanier
July 22, 1947 – March 5, 2016
ZEBULON – Robert Alfred Lanier, 68, died Saturday. He was a native of Wake County and son of the late Melvin Mainer & Wilma Nowell Lanier. Robert was a lifelong member of Zebulon Baptist Church, retired member of the Zebulon Rural Fire Department for where he served for 25 years, and an active member of the “We Care Board” with Wake Electric Membership Corporation. He worked with the NC State Attorney General in the office of the North Carolina Police Information Network for 20 years, owner of Lanier’s Furniture, & over 20 years with Lowes Home Improvement. Robert was a member of the Barhams Breakfast Club and Sunday Morning Eddins Oil Company Coffee Club. He was the “best” of husbands, an awesome Daddy and beyond awesome “Pa”, his greatest joy & pride was spending time with them. He loved and was devoted totally to his family, friends, customers, and employees. Robert was willing to do whatever was needed or asked of him at anytime. He left us all with the greatest of memories that will continue to bless our lives and keep him in our hearts forever. He was a lover of grilling, beach music, woodworking, & Friday Night Sock Hop! He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Faith Lanier & brother, Kenneth.
Funeral service 11 am, Wednesday, Zebulon Baptist Church, 400 North Arendell Ave., Zebulon, with burial to follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl G. Lanier, children, Inga Beck (Joe), Paxton Lanier (Kate), brothers, Tim Lanier (June) of Zebulon, Gerald Lanier (Gina) of Zebulon, grandchildren, Dyson, Keegan, Cullen, & soon to be grandson, Angus, special family, Eddie & Debby Driver.
