WENDELL – Genevieve “Gen” Joseph, 86, died peacefully Easter Sunday. Her husband of 56 years, Charles M. “Charlie” Joseph, Sr., preceded her on May 11, 2002. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of Sam & Rose Nader Norman. Gen was a former parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Mary’s School. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 1944, and attended a two-year business school. She was a devout Catholic and active in the church throughout her life. At St. Mary’s, Gen served as vice president of the Mothers Guild, chairman of Room Mothers, and president of the Rosary/Sanctuary Society. She taught fourth-grade CCD in the religious education program for 5 years. Gen remained a member of the Lebanon American Daughters in Poughkeepsie from 1958 until her death, and had served as secretary, vice president, & president of that organization. In 1964 she wrote and composed “Farewell Dear Sisters” which is still recited at the visitations of deceased sister members. She enjoyed working as a nursing assistant and ward secretary at Vassar Brothers Hospital. Later she worked in the Poughkeepsie Middle School cafeteria and summer programs.
Gen moved to Wendell, NC in 1985 with her husband and joined the parish of St. Eugene Catholic Church. She taught third and fourth grade CCD in the religious education program for 11 years, and served the church community as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, member of the Ladies Guild, and member of In Mary’s Service. She enjoyed participating in trips and activities with the Catholic Golden Age association.

A funeral Mass will be held 9 am, Saturday in St. Eugene Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband in the family plot.
She is survived by her children, Charles M. Joseph Jr. & wife Nancy of New Port Richey, FL, Michael J. Joseph & wife Carolyn of Danbury, CT, Genevieve R. Joseph & husband Philip White of Durham, grandchildren Damian Duda of Piscataway, NJ, Adam Joseph and wife Tammy of Wesley Chapel, FL, Darren Joseph and Eric Joseph of Danbury, CT, great grandson Derek Joseph of Wesley Chapel, FL, and many dear friends. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beatrice A. Joseph.
