Callie Joe Johnson Tant

WENDELL – Callie Joe Johnson Tant, 67, of Wendell, passed away peacefully Monday evening November 16, 2015 at her home.

A native of Wendell, Callie Joe was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward Johnson and Callie Whitley Sanderford Johnson. Being the youngest in a blended family of sixteen, she became the family genealogist and traced her family roots back to southern England in the 18th century. She was a graduate of Vaiden Whitley High School and later attended Hardbarger’s Business College. Callie Joe was a dedicated and loving wife, daughter, sister and “favorite aunt” to her extraordinarily large family.

Callie Joe is survived by her brothers, Aaron Johnson, Lloyd Sanderford and Dwight Sanderford; sisters, Kay Gresham and Fay Jones and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, Barbee Raymond Tant; brothers, Starling and Curtis Sanderford, Malcolm, Harold, Bennie, Fred and Alvin Johnson; sisters, Ethel Haithcock, Eleanor Phipps and Evelyn Hodge as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Strickland Funeral Home Chapel, 211 W. Third Street, Wendell. Visitation, 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home of Dwight Sanderford.
