Arie B. Sykes, Jr.

Arie B. Sykes, Jr.

Arie B. Sykes, Jr. “Legs”, died peacefully surrounded by family on August 31, 2022.  Born on September 12, 1927.  Arie was know affectionately by many as “Legs” due to his tall and thin physique.  A voracious reader, Legs was a man of many talents.  He was especially proud of his patent for a solar heating device.  He served in the US Army and survived combat in the Korean War.  Until recent years he would readily volunteer to represent the US military at funeral services for veterans.  Legs was a man of faith and this past summer he helped teach a Sunday school class at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Boonville, NC.

Legs is survived by his sister, Mildred S. Williams, several nieces, and nephews.

The family sincerely thanks the personnel of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC, and Transitions LifeCare in Wake County for their excellent and compassionate care of Legs during the final weeks of his life.

A time for the service to celebrate his life will be announced by the family soon.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either Transitions LifeCare or the Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.  www.stricklandfuneral.com

We are so sorry about the loss of Arie. We have already missed Arie in our class at church. Arie had great sense of humor, we had a lot of fun with our Senior Outings. We will miss him, our loss is Heavens gain.

Thank you for the kind comment. I have fond memories of visiting Uncle Arie (Legs) and Ruth. Your Aunt Ruth was a great lady (and fantastic cook!).
