WILLARD EARL STRICKLAND
July 22, 1932 – June 14, 2014
ZEBULON – Willard Earl Strickland, 81, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, surrounded by his family after a brief and courageous fight against cancer. A native of Nash County he was son to the late Earlie & Nancy Driver Strickland. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and member of the American Legion Middlesex Post 278. He worked for 21 years with State Capital Life Insurance and later for the NC Department of Insurance from which he retired after 24 years of service. Mr. Strickland was a faithful member and deacon at Union Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by brothers; Cedric, Fenton, & H. C.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty “Melvalene” Strickland of the home; daughter, Donna Strickland Bissette; granddaughter, Kristen Bissette Webb & husband Jimmy; grandson, Matthew Bissette & wife Lisa; great granddaughter, Eden Claire Webb, brother; Johnnie Strickland, sisters; Katie Strickland & Beulah Parker.
Flowers welcomed or memorials may be made to Union Hope Baptist Church.
Funeral service, 6 pm, Monday, Union Hope Baptist Church with visitation to follow. Family Burial, Tuesday, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
