Wilbur Odell “WO” Johnson

November 22, 1930 – January 9, 2021

ZEBULON – Wilbur Odell “WO” Johnson, 90, a USAF Korean Veteran and native of the Corinth-Holders Community in Johnston County, went to his Heavenly home on January 9, 2021. Wilbur loved his family and especially his “Honee,” Lucy Johnson who predeceased him.

Wilbur was also predeceased by his parents, William Odell (Tony) and Edith Johnson; his sister and husband Betty Jo and Bobby Carter; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ronald Johnson, Donald Williams, Ray Hassell; Mary Ida and John Thomasson; and Martha Arnold.

He is survived by his daughter, Marty Jo Huddleston (Jeff) of Zebulon; sons, Michael Johnson (Pam) of Ohio, Mitch Johnson (Sue), and Matt Johnson of Raleigh; several grandchildren; sister-in-law Emma (Danny) Brantley; brother-in-law Jimmy (Carolyn) Arnold; Jean Williams, Mary Hassell, and many nieces and nephews.

Wilbur was a long-time member of Corinth Baptist serving in the pulpit, as deacon, on many committees, as a talented auctioneer during Harvest sales; and singing and playing his guitar. He worked as bookkeeper then building supply salesman for Southern Builders for 17 years and as bookkeeper for the American Legion for 8 years. Wilbur and his “Honee” Lucy had their own tax return preparation business for 25 years. Wilbur was also a creative songwriter and poet and spent many hours playing his guitar.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2pm-4pm, Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St. Wendell. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Graveside 11 am, Monday, Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

    I worked with Wilbur at the American Legion Headquarters and have fond memories of him..
