Virginia Joyce Sherrod
May 26, 1936 – February 4, 2025
ZEBULON – Virginia Hood Lewis Sherrod, 88, passed away Tuesday, February 4th, 2025. She was born in Wake County to Frank Virginia Hood & Maudie Joyce Corbett. Mrs. Sherrod worked with the Department of Revenue as a clerk for the state of North Carolina in which she retired. She enjoyed cooking and in her spare time loved to go fishing. She loved flowers, gardening and bird watching. Virginia cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother as well. In addition to her parents Virginia is preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Johnson Lewis, and her late husband, Thomas Preston Sherrod and daughter, Joyce Lewis.
She is survived by her children, Amory Lewis (Tom), Paul Wayne Lewis, Annette Carroll (John), grandchildren, Greg Lewis, Dereck Lewis (Hien), Ava Carroll, great grandchildren, Sean, Caitlyn, & Colt Lewis.
Visitation will be held Thursday February 6th, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory.
A funeral service will be held Friday February 7th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 2437 Zebulon Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597. Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591.
