Tom Hammond

Tom Hammond, 69, of Zebulon, NC passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice in Raleigh, NC

Tom was born March 19, 1951 in Frankfort, KY to Chet & Mary Hammond. He graduated from Green Hill High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Ft. Pierce Junior College in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

He was an avid sports fan but his greatest love was anything NC State and NASCAR.

Tom retired as a Private Investigator with his company Hammond-Whitt, Inc. due to his declining health in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chet, his youngest brother, Jim and his Granddog, Lukas.

Tom will be lovingly missed by his mom, Mary of Zebulon; wife Jeanette “Shug” of the home; son, Justin “Buddy Ro” of Raleigh; daughter, Shelli Rowland (Chris) of Raleigh; brother Dennis Hammond (Nancy) of Milwaukee, WI; brother & sister-in-law, Dale & Paula Hux; niece, Marla Dale; grandsons Aaron & Justin Rowland; Granddogs, Harrelson & Daisy; his uncle Jim Thomas (Patty) of Jacksonville, FL and special friends Stephanie & Everett Rouse of Zebulon.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Duke Thoracic Surgery Department: Dr. David C. White, P.A’s Rashni Patel, Skylar Brewer & Katie Gillis; Duke Oncologists, Dr. Neeraj R. Agrawal; Duke-Raleigh Same Day Surgery pre- and post-op, Endoscopy, Surgical & Anesthesiology and his fifth floor family – our family will always have a special place in our hearts for you.

Due to current restrictions on gatherings, a private service for family will be held on Sunday, March 29th at 2pm. A livestream will be available at facebook.com/stricklandfuneral.  The family encourages memorial contributions are  for the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center-Patient Navigator fund through Make A Wish Gift to Duke (Gifts.duke.edu) or to Wakefield Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 308 Proctor Street, Zebulon, NC 27597.

    I just wanted you to know my heart goes out to you and your family. Tom was a wonderful son and brother. Only time will heal and the Lord will always be with you in time of need. We all know the feeling of losing a love one and only time can heal, Take care.

    Jeanette, Stephanie and Justin….I’m sorry for your loss…..
    I worked with Tom at Mims Dist in the 70’s and worked with him later on in construction work.
    He and I always kidded each other when it came to UNC and NCSU…..he being the state fan.
    I saw Tom a few months ago….talked with him a few days ago and was going to visit him but I was unable to go and
    now I wish I could have gone………………..I feel like I let him down and I hope he will forgive me for not going.

    Tom was always smiling, and even now looking down smiling. So sorry for everyone’s loss. Although through heartache, he is finally at peace and was called home. I love each and everyone one of you, and pray for peace and comfort. Tom will be missed greatly, as he has a heart of gold ❤️

    Stephanie ,, Justin and family. I am so sorry for your loss . I first met you guys years ago when Tom (Biggun) played softball with the Wild Bunch! We shared lots of laughs , love and memories with you guys . Hugs and prayers for all of you
