Thurman Levon Batten, Sr.
December 24, 1934 – May 31, 2018
MIDDLESEX – Thurman Levon Batten, 83, died Thursday. A native of Johnston County he was son to the late James Thomas & Regina Boyette Batten. Thurman spent the majority of his life working in the floor covering business. He was preceded in death by his wife & best friend of 56 years, Janet B. Batten, & granddaughter, Crystal Rose.
Funeral service 2 pm, Monday, Antioch Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Starr Taylor (Tommy) of Allen, TX, Sheree Rose (Allen) of Nashville, Lee Batten (Jeanette) of Middlesex, siblings, Rufus Batten (Debbie) of Middlesex, Wilbur Batten (Mary Alice) of New Bern, Syble Woodby, Zelma Scott (Shannon), both of Raleigh, Danny Batten (Elizabeth) of Garner, Sadie Meacombs-Whitfield of Rolesville, Tim Batten (Debbie) of Middlesex, grandchildren, John Thomas (Amanda), James Thurman Taylor (Ellen), Charles Rose (Brittany), Allison Currie (Jason), Michelle Bell (James), Landon Batten, great grandchildren, Mary Claire, Bennie, & James Rose, Samuel & Isaiah Currie, and his beloved dog, Socks.
The family would like to thank the emergency room department and the critical care unit of Nash General Hospital for the compassionate care Thurman received during his final days & would also like to thank the many wonderful friends and family who shared their love with Thurman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 8490 NC 39 Hwy, Middlesex, NC 27557 or Middlesex Baptist Church, Family Life Center, PO Box 369, Middlesex, NC 27557.
Visitation 3-4:30 pm, Sunday, Strickland Funeral Home 211 W. Third St., Wendell & other times at the home.

Thurman was always a joy to be around. He was always welcoming to everyone around him, kind-hearted and a loving Christian man. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to all the children and the rest of the family. It is tough to give them up, but I know he is resting in peace in the arms of our Saviour and will be united with his sweet wife, Janet. You will be missed, cousin.
