Rossie Bailey Jones
February 1, 1917 – October 3, 2016
MIDDLESEX – Rossie Bailey Jones, 99, died Monday. He was born February 1, 1917 in Nash County, NC. He was the 5th in a family of 9 children.
He went to 8 different schools in the 9 years that he attended school. He quit school to work to help support his siblings. After, he married Elizabeth Coggin in November 1940, they settled in the Social Plains Community to stay in one location and lived a life of devotion to each other, God, family, & others. Elizabeth predeceased him in August, 1997. He was a great builder-many homes and churches in the area are a testament to his work. He was also an excellent farmer and a wonderful gardener. His greatest interest was in farming. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bonnie Fuller.
He loved the outdoors, quail hunting, bream and crappie fishing. Many people enjoyed participating in these sports with him. There were many good memories made at fish fries over the years, especially on the banks of Jackson’s Mill pond, Louisburg, NC and in the yard at Social Plains Church during the annual fish fry.
Funeral service 3 pm, Thursday, Social Plains Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his children; R. B. Jones (Alice) of Zebulon, Linda Eatmon (Donnie) of Middlesex, a brother, Larry W. Jones; grandchildren Betsy Veil, Jason Patterson, Daniel Jones, step-grandchildren, Sharon Sherrod, Donna Boswell & their families, one great-grandchild, Skye, extended family Randal and Jan Jones, Tommie Jones and Kim Jones; Jon and June Alford and their families, Eugene and Linda Jordan, many nieces, nephews, & special friend, Pete Deaver.
He attributed his long life to faith and trust in God, clean living, hard work, chocolate, ice cream and peanuts.
Flowers welcomed or memorials may be made to Social Plains Baptist Church or Transitions Life Care.
