Rosaline Annie High Mazzeo, age 97, of Wendell, died peacefully at home on July 18, 2014. Rosaline was born in Johnston County to Thomas Claire and Maude High. She graduated from Wendell High School and attended East Carolina University. She married Henry “Hank” R. Mazzeo, Sr. on May 14, 1944 and they moved to Wendell to share their life together. She was employed for many years at Wenco Furniture Company.
Rosaline was an active member of Hephzibah Baptist Church until she experienced declining health. She loved to travel and did so at every opportunity and shared many wonderful outings with her special cousin, Virginia Lane (deceased), and her very special neighbor and best friend, Joanne Beckerich. She also enjoyed many special times with her special friend and cousin, Chris Hinnant and Maggie Horton.
She was an excellent cook and catered to the desires of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was well known for her fried chicken, fried squash, meatloaf, cornbread, coconut cream pie and her special chocolate pie. She was loved by her nieces and nephews who enjoyed her company and her true Southern cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Mazzeo, Sr. and brothers: Joe, Jesse, Claire, and Odell High, who fondly referred to her as “Sister”. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Henry R Mazzeo, Jr and Betty Mazzeo; grandson, Rocky Mazzeo; granddaughter and husband, Kimberly and Amos Greene; Great-grandchildren: Dillan and Jacob Greene, and Taylor and Rocco Mazzeo. She is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Kay and Sam Ewell of Wendell, Tommy and Phyllis High of Granite Falls, as well as by many great-nephews and nieces, and caretakers Paula Hamilton and Lessie Watson
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County, 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603, or Wendell United Methodist Church Food Pantry, PO Box 1925, Wendell, NC 27591. A private burial will be held at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell.
