Raymond Otis Massey, Jr.
January 30, 1951 – February 15, 2025
ZEBULON – Raymond Otis Massey, Jr., 74, passed away late Saturday evening surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Nash County to the late Raymond Otis Massey Sr. & Lula B Denton Massey.
As a lifelong resident of Zebulon, Ray valued being near his family, church and friends. He lived his life for Christ and made that evident to each person he touched along the way. His contributions were often in the form of helping others with home and building repairs, yard work, planning and design, serving as a deacon, uplifting prayers, spreading joy and positivity and providing endless encouragement. His smile and sense of humor were contagious, and everyone left his presence feeling uplifted. He truly let the light of Christ flow through him to all those he encountered. He will always be remembered as a humble servant of the Lord.
He graduated from Wakelon High School in 1969. Soon after he married the love of his life, Lyn, on August 1, 1971. He then finished his degree at North Carolina State University in 1973 and began his 30-year career with the Wake County Public School System, where as Associate Superintendent, he designed, built and renovated many of the local schools. He was fortunate to retire at the age of fifty which allowed him and Lyn to enjoy many years serving the church and their community. In 2007, he became a grandfather, and his role as “Poppy” was one he enthusiastically embraced. He had a very special relationship with each child and his three grandchildren. He also had a close relationship with members of the Wakelon High School Class of 1957 after serving as their class mascot.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Linda Massey; son, David Brandon Massey (Ashley); daughter, Marlet Massey Edwards; grandchildren, Wallace Caroline Edwards, Harrison Thomas Edwards and Everett Dean Massey; brother, Randall S. Massey (Wanda); sister, LuAnn Massey Hinton (C.R.); and sister-in-law, Marie V. Richards.
Visitation will be held at Wakefield Central Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. 308 Proctor St. Zebulon, NC 27597. Funeral service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wakefield Central Baptist Church Building Fund.

So sorry.
Ray Massey Jr., was one of the special individual I met on this journey we call life that left a powerful memory. He is so memorable because he was such a good and positive person; always willing to extend a helping hand even if you were a stranger. He lived his life following the teachings of Christ. We worked together as employees of the Wake County Public School System. Ray was responsible for building, maintaining and renovating schools, as Associate Superintendent of Auxiliary Services. His work ethic was superb and of the highest quality. He was a man of substance and great integrity. I know he loved the Lord, family, especially his children and grandchildren. This humble man of God was praised wherever he went. Faye and I send our condolences and prayers to Lyn, David, Marlet and the rest of the family. We will miss him; I will miss him. I feel honored to have called him my friend. Bill McNeal
