ZEBULON – Melvin Larry Penny, 69, transitioned from this life on Wednesday, December 14.  A native of Wake County, he was born January 13, 1953 to the late Millard Leon Duke and Modelle Lillian Penny. Melvin worked as a machinist by trade and also as a farmer, owning his own farm. He was a unique man that meant many different things to many different people, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by his spouse of 23 years, Rhonda Thomasson Penny, his siblings, Trent Penny, Betty Penny and Linda Morris.

He is survived by his brother, Ronnie Penny, his sons, Larry Penny, Jamie Penny (Stephanie) and Brett Penny, stepdaughter Lisa Glover (David), and 7 grandchildren, Lynzie Penny, Savannah Penny, Summer Penny, Sydney Penny, Aidan Penny, Austin Penny and Alex Penny.

A Funeral service will take place at 2:00pm, Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591. Burial will follow at the Penny Family Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the Penny family asks that memorial contributions be made to your local volunteer fire dept.

    I just found out that Melvin. Pass I just was at his house he wanted some Mc Donald’s I went to McDonald’s they had Ino breakfast so I went. Bojangles for him he was so sick I worked for Melvin long time keeping Betty he was A good man he will be miss

    I just read of Melvin’s passing. We were long time egg customers and I always enjoyed visiting with him. So sorry for your loss. May he rest in reace and is now without pain.
