Margaret Helen Gilpin

Margaret Helen Gilpin, originally of North Carolina, was welcomed into her Heavenly home on Monday, February 17, 2020, at Moosehaven Retirement Community in Orange Park, FL., surrounded by family and friends.  She was born on July 20, 1942 in Bennettsville, SC to the late James Junior Thompson and the late Jacquette Thompson Dubovsky.

She retired from Square D Company in 1997 after 22 years of employment.  Margaret was a faithful and loyal servant of Christ and was always touching the lives of those she knew and loved with her gentleness, kindness and Prayers.  She had a contagious and infectious smile that always spread and lingered to those around her.  She always brought a smile to the faces of those she loved with her hand made gifts and crafts and the love that she put into them.  She loved cooking and feeding anyone who was hungry including all birds and squirrels.  She loved her family immensely as one of her favorite quotes was, “There’s nothing better than my youngins, my grandyoungins and Dr. Pepper”.

She was preceded in death by both of her late parents; (Brothers) Junior Thompson and William Bruce Thompson; (Sister) Patricia Ann Hicks; (Sons) Kenneth Wayne Garris and Jeffrey “Pee Wee” Garris.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 22 years, Harry N. Gilpin III of Orange Park, FL.; (Brother) Donnie Thompson (Anna) of Newport, NC; (Daughters) Debra Garris of Boynton, VA and Lisa Brantley of Zebulon, NC; (Son) Earl “Bo” Garris (Dottie) of Kenly, NC; (Step-Son) Harry Gilpin IV (Martha) of VA; (Step-Daughters) Cindy Hughes (Jon) of Raleigh, NC and Tammy Horne (Tony) of Wake Forest, NC; 5 Grandchildren, 8 Step-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She left behind a legacy of special friends including Winnie Shamblin, and Sue & Paul Williams who made it possible for her final days to be filled with complete Joy, Happiness and Comfort.

Visitation and Services will be held at Strickland Funeral Home in Wendell, NC on Sunday, February 23, with Visitation starting at 1:30pm and the Service starting at 3:00pm.  Burial and final resting will immediately follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Wendell, NC.
