Louise Dean Bunn

GREENVILLE – Louise Dean Bunn (“Nama”), a woman of integrity, an angel that loved her family, and most importantly, a true servant of God passed on from life here on earth after 97 amazing years to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Louise was born in Harnett Co. to the late Prentis Coldan & Eva Baker Dean (“Mama Dean”). She lived her early life in rural Wake County outside of Fuquay-Varina. She lost her father at the age of 18 and moved to Raleigh to work and help support her mother and siblings. She began her early career in the photography business and used that experience to assume her role with the identification and fingerprint division with the NC Dept. of Corrections. She loved her career and the friends and colleagues she served with until she retired. She married Duke Bunn, the love of her life, in 1954, and they went on to have two children, Barry and Robin. When her children were young, her husband had a tragic automobile accident and was subsequently left on hemodialysis from kidney failure until his passing in 1981. She used this challenge as a charge to create the Nolan D. Bunn Foundation, a non-profit that raised money for dialysis patients. Louise retired from this second career at the age of 80. Louise used that time of her life to personally sit and arrange home sitters for elderly and disabled patients. This career was a perfect match for her, because relationships were everything to her. The multitude of families and friends that resulted from this part of her life fit the lady perfectly, who often said “it was better to give than to receive.” Louise was a great counselor and confidant due to her keen listening ability and selflessness which was always seen as the reason she could give such good advice. She was strong-willed by nature but was as gentle as she was kind. Words could not describe what she meant to so many, especially her family. In the end, she was all but certain to hear, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”

Louise was the matriarch of the Dean Family and was preceded in death by her parents Prentis Coldan Dean and Eva Baker Dean, her husband of many years, Nolan Duke Bunn, her siblings Norfleet Dean, Ervin Dean, Jack Dean, Junior Dean, Maude Griffin, Lucille Davis and Clarice Brown.

Louise is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Barry Duke and Shirley Bunn, grandchildren Dylan Bunn and Bailey Bunn of Greenville, NC. She is also survived by her daughter Robin Bunn of Greenville, NC. She is survived by her only living sibling, her sister, Zola Boyette of Garner, NC.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Baptist Grove Baptist Church, located at 6140 Christian Light Rd., Fuquay Varina, NC., officiated by Reverend Kevin Champion, with the funeral service visitation from 10:00am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Committal will follow at Montlawn Memorial Garden in Raleigh NC.

Flowers are welcomed

Truly like my other mama, you will always hold a special place in my heart. Although hearts are broken, I know you are now in our eternal home place. Until we meet again.
Prayers are for Barry, Robin and the family to embrace the example set for them to follow as they live on your legacy. You were far more than Rubies Louise. I love you.

The Surles family was so sad to hear of the passing of this truly wonderful and great lady. She exuded kindness and positivity wherever she went. No matter what challenges she was facing, I do not think I ever saw her without a smile on her face.. She was incredibly strong, but showed her strength in softness and gentleness. .She has left a legacy of caring for others as evidenced by the love shown to her by Barry, Robin, and Shirley. We are sending love to all of you. Lara

I met Louise when I worked with the Parole Commission on West Morgan St in Raleigh. In her obituary it made reference to her work in the Nolan Bunn Foundation. Louise raised money for the foundation by selling raffle tickets. One year the prize was a Holland grill and I won! She was very talented in crafts and flowers and I was lucky enough for her to make the topping for our wedding cake. If i recall she did not even charge me. Always cordial and I remember her being a classy dresser. Prayers to all the family.
