Larry Davis Bass
May 31, 1949 – January 19, 2022
WENDELL – Larry Davis Bass, 72, passed away on Wednesday January 19, 2022. He was born in Clarksburg West Virginia to the late Willie Davis Bass and Joy Gay Currie Bass. Larry, like his brothers, had a love for cars and enjoyed drag racing at many of the local tracks on the weekends under Bass Brothers Racing. Larry grew up in the construction business with his brothers working for his father in Bass Construction in Akron Ohio. After moving to Wendell North Carolina, he started a painting business and became successful by painting a number of large housing developments in and around the Raleigh area. Larry enjoyed planting a garden each season which kept the family well stocked in tomatoes and other vegetables. He also spent time tinkering on his race car and spending time with his brothers sharing stories that grew more exciting over the years. Larry was well known for his post-midnight shopping sprees on Christmas eve, buying gifts for the family. He also had a shoe collection that would rival even his sister and sister-in-law. He was crazy about coconut cream pies, especially the ones his mother and Aunts made. Larry loved his family and will surely be missed by all who knew him. He is predeceased in death by his wife, Jo Barringer Bass.
He is survived by children, Dwight Bass (Carla), Melissa Schiffgens (Don), step children, Dustin Barringer, Devin Barringer, Tammy Provost, grandchildren, Carmen Bass, Cassie Bass, Davis Bass, Caeden Schiffgens, brothers Joe Bass, Steve Bass, sister, Shelly Young and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 29, 2022, Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591
