Lamar Braxton Pender
August 13, 1956 – June 12, 2026
WENDELL – Lamar Braxton Pender, at the young age of 69, passed on from this life after a courageous battle with cancer. Lamar was born in Johnston Co. to Earl Braxton Pender (dec.) & Betty Lou Young (dec.). Lamar was a man of integrity and diversity, always receptive and intrigued by the history and background of others. There was never a dull moment with Lamar around. He had a natural ability to make others laugh, always looking to lift their spirits. Lamar was an active member of SCV, serving in several leadership roles, such as locally, a Camp Commander and as the Brigade Commander at the state level. Lamar met and helped many people during his time here and though that time was short, the impact he made will last for many years to come, cherished in the hearts of those that called him family or a true friend.
Lamar is survived by his spouse, Jean W. Pender; his sister, Debbie P. Perry; his niece and nephews, Wendy W. Blanton, Brian W. Whitman, and Jason G. Perry; his stepson, Darel S. Denton and his grandchildren, Darel S. Denton, Jr., Brianna E. Turner and Sarah E. Denton.
Memorial service will begin at 11:00am on Friday, June 19, 2026, at North Carolina Baptist Church, located at 1850 Wendell Blvd., Wendell NC. The family will speak with friends at the conclusion of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to North Carolina Baptist Church.
Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell. www.stricklandfuneral.com

Commander Pender was a Southern Patriot through and through and honoured his ancestors fully… he was an active member of the NC Division Sons of Confederate Veterans for many years until his health did not allow. After that he remained active in passing along pertinent information on Facebook Messenger to me personally as recently as May 7th. Rest in Peace Lamar we will take it from here…
Lamar was a long time good friend ,what you saw is what you got ,down to earth . Till we meet again old friend .
I was a brigade commander during his time as one . We were good friends. We attended the sham trial in Durham for the destruction of the veterans memorial. I’ll miss him greatly
Rest in peace old friend, we’ll take over from here.
Lamar was such an interesting person with a unique voice that drew one in. I loved seeing him and Uncle Sherrill together always on good missions with a little bit of mischief in their eyes. Regrettably, I didn’t see Lamar often although we were first cousins. Last summer I’d experienced several difficult losses and Lamar sent me comforting messages and comforting videos by various artists. I suspect he did that for numerous individuals. My thoughts and prayers are with each family member and friend.
Great patriot, good friend, superior person. A man of faith and integrity. This world needs more Lamar Penders.
