Kay Chamblee Perry, made her journey to her heavenly home on November 19th at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Johnston County on December 20,1938 to the late Leslie Belmont and Nellie Pearl Richardson Chamblee. Kay loved the Lord and served him daily. She loved her family and friends dearly. She attended Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for over 50 years. She worked for the Wake County Public School System for many years until her retirement. She was well known for her Love of Jesus, monogramming, chocolate pies and homemade biscuits.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Basil; son, Walter Perry (Paula); Daughter, Marny Perry; Granddaughters, Elizabeth and Tessa Perry; Great Grandson Caden; Brother, Barry Chamblee (Linda); Sister, Sandra Richardson (Tim), and many nieces and nephews. Cody, her faithful, loving Maltese never left her side. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Peggy Nell, brothers, Charles, Wayne, Kenneth, Elton, and Jerry Chamblee.
Visitation will be from 6 – 7:30 pm on Tuesday November 21 at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell and at other times at the home.
The funeral will be November 22 at 2 pm at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church. The burial will follow the service in the Church Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to the Hopkins Chapel Church Family for all their help and to TransitionsLifeCare for helping with Kay’s care, especially Heather and Anita. Our family would also like to thank our family and friends for the care given, prayers, visits, calls, and food during this trying time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory can be made to the Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church specified for Mission Trips.
Kay’s last request is for everyone to wear bright colors to her service.
