Wilson County – Katie Lou Strickland, 84, died Tuesday morning with her family by her side. She was born in Nash County to the late General Earlie & Nancy Driver Strickland. Katie spent her life caring for children and giving families a true place of love. Her children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren will remember her smile as they were her heart.

She is survived by her children, Jimmy Wayne Phillips (Terry), Debbie Phillips, siblings, Johnny Strickland & Beulah Parker, grandchildren, Angel Peele, Brandon Radford (Taylor), Heather Harwood (Ryan), great grandchildren, Kaylee, Heidi, Lucy, Connor, and her grandfurbabies, Boogieman & Belle.

Flowers are welcomed or a memorial may be made to Gentiva Hospice, or your favorite dementia organization.

Funeral service 11:00am, Friday, Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00am, prior to the service. Burial, Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Middlesex. www.stricklandfuneral.com

    I’m so sorry to hear this news. Katie was our (Jennifer, Tonya and Tammy) babysitter from 6 weeks old to 11 years old. She was such a good woman. She was the best babysitter ever. We had lots of good times with her. She would keep up to 6 or 7 of us at a time and did it like it was a piece of pie until one of got hurt.She also taught us a lot even the little things. She will be missed. Sending prayers to the family.
