JORIS R. BELL, III

WENDELL – Joris Rickman Bell III, died Sunday. A native of Wake county he was son to the late Eleanor L. Whitley Bell & Joris Rickman Bell, Jr.. He was graduate of the New School of Fine Arts, Coral Gable, FL. He was a writer of music and was an accomplished painter & calligrapher. Joris would often take time to perform ventriloquism at children’s homes and for senior citizens. He was preceded in death by a niece, Suzanne Michell Harris
Funeral service 3 pm, Wednesday, Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell with interment to follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his most beloved sister Florence Sage (Dale) of Wendell, nieces Diane Garrett-Jones of Wendell, & Joanne Sharon Garrett of Raleigh, 3 great nephews and 2 great nieces.
Visitation 7-8:30 pm, Tuesday, at his sister’s home, 6424 Bethany Church Rd., Wendell.

Joris and I met in West Palm Beach, Florida many years ago. He had heard I wrote music and asked me to put music to a lyric he had written. It was entitled, “My Street” and the music came easily. Good song. I remember his calligraphy was quite good. He had that song published but I don’t believe anything ever happened with it. I have a copy in my archived old papers. God bless him and his family!
i just saw this…..when i was a child, Joris was friends with my mother, Dr. Marcia Gordon, and he drew a beautiful portrait of me for my bat mitzvah. He showed me a song he had written called It Disappears, as i was and still am a musician. A few years ago I remembered the first verse of this and created an entire song out of it that i currently perform with my band. I would like to thank him for all of these things, and was just looking up his name when i ran accross this…
I knew Joris in West Palm Beach. He was also a fine poet
