Jeffrey D. Barnes

Jeffrey D. Barnes

It is with great sadness that the Barnes Family announces the passing of Jeffrey Dykes Barnes, on Monday, January 8, 2024. Jeff was a son, a husband, a dad, a pappy, and a friend to so many.

Jeff lived a life of service to the Archer Lodge community. He joined the Archer Lodge Fire Department in 1972, where he later served as Fire Chief from 1987-2000. During this time, he also served as the President of the Johnston County Fireman’s Association and Johnston County Fire Chiefs Association. Jeff served on the Archer Lodge Community Center board, as well as various committees. He was a founding councilman of the newly formed Town of Archer Lodge in 2009. Jeff retired from the council in 2014. In recognition of his selfless service, the town dedicated the council chambers in his name in December 2016.

Jeff spent 34 years working for Bobbitt Design Build in Raleigh, NC. Outside of work, he could be found hunting or fishing. He passed his love for the outdoors on to his two sons, in hopes that they carry on the tradition with their children.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lisa Moore Barnes; sons, Hunter Nathan Barnes (Kim) and Tucker Glenn Barnes (Paige); grandchildren, Jackson, Clara, Tripp, and Brooks Barnes; mother, Mary Lou Edwards Barnes; sister, Jan Barnes Smith; and brother, Jimmie Randall Barnes (Elaine). He also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, as well as a special caretaker and friend, Alex Cruz. Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Dykes Barnes.

The family wishes to convey our heartfelt appreciation to everyone for your expressions of love, encouragement, support and prayers during the time of Jeff’s illness and passing.

A service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 12, 2024 at White Oak Baptist Church, 13943 Buffalo Road, Clayton. A visitation will be held immediately after the service at the Archer Lodge Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Archer Lodge Community Center, North Side Fire Department, Transitions LifeCare, or a charity of your choice. In honor of Jeff’s love for the outdoors, please take a kid hunting or fishing.

Arrangements are entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.
