Janice “Nanny” Thornton Harding

Janice “Nanny” Thornton Harding

Janice passed away peacefully on her 88th birthday surrounded by family.  Janice was born in Johnston County to the late Hubert Carlton and Inez Hawley Thornton and was the widow of Larry Jennings Harding.

Janice was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and longtime resident of Archer Lodge. She enjoyed her community and many friends. Being outside under the carport waiting for friends to stop by and “sit-a-while”, was an all-time favorite. She also loved being on the road with friends and family for a shopping adventure or outing of any sort. Janice loved fashion, all things “gold”, music, good humor and cooking for anyone!

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice is also preceded in death by her brother, Phil Thornton, and sisters, Linda Rose Jordan and Sue Thornton Harris.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Todd Harding, her daughter, Jill Harding Dillon, husband Kenneth, her one and only grandson, Matthew Wayne Dillon, wife Samantha and two great granddaughters, Adalyn Kate and Alydia Klaire Dillon. Brothers Glenn Thornton, Don Thornton and Clark Thornton, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Jenna Fowler, caregiver, for her many years of kindness and care.  Also, to the team at Cardinal Hospice Care.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at White Oak Baptist Church with the Reverend Bryant Wilson officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow the service in the Wall Family Cemetery.

Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC, 27591, 919-365-5267, is serving the Harding family.

Jan was a sweet lady. I enjoyed taking her some goodies and sitting under her carport and watching all the cars go by, talking about my Brother and my Father in Law working with her at Sylvania. She loved her jewelry and would always come see me at the jewelry store . She was always a beautiful lady , very classy and well dressed.
Jill I know the last couple of years have been hard but she was blessed that you kept her at home and took such good care of her.

My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you !

    Love,
    Donna

I knew Janice when I wS a child and spent summers with her mom and dad. She was always beautiful and knew her fashion in the 50’s.
Several years ago she contacted me on FB and we exchanged information for a while. She filled me in on family death’s. Tot, her dad was my dad’s first cousin.
It was great family time and we would make ice cream on Sunday afternoons. I remember how beautiful she was and was so happy to see this picture. I loved hearing from her the last few years but I moved after my husband passed away and we lost touch.
You all have my sincere condolences and I know she will be greatly missed.

Jerry and Jill, my condolences to both of you. Your mom was the sweetest lady. I loved her wit and intellect. I will keep your family in my prayers.
    Love you both,
    Oobie
