February 25, 1953 – December 6, 2021
BUNN – Janice Anne Caramanica Schall, 68, went peacefully home to our Lord and Savior on Monday, December 6th, 2021. She was born into a wonderful, large, loving Italian family in King’s County, New York to the late Anthony & Helen (Ventrice) Caramanica. Janice grew up in Long Island, NY but lived and touched lives in too many places to name. She worked in everything from a clothing store to a prison and doing home health care all while raising her daughters. She will be remembered as the warmest, kindest, and most welcoming woman many ever met. She was a rare example of a servant’s heart in action. She loved the unlovable with a patience and kindness that seems unusual in this world but is exactly what Christ expects of all of us. She was consistently adopting people (and even some animals) into her home and family. If someone needed food, shelter, clothing, or even just a kind word, she always found a way to help. Janice was an amazing cook and would feed anyone and everyone she could. As one friend put it, “She could make something out of nothing and it would be the most delicious thing you ever tasted.” She was stronger than anyone ever gave her tiny 5’ frame credit for being and proved it over and over in the last year as she battled PERM, an extremely rare auto-immune disorder. She had a great sense of humor. Getting nurses across the ER to laugh out loud even while going through the worst of things. We often joked she was the best Mom but the worst patient ever what with all the refusing to have something curable and easy. In the end, she was never a saint but was always a force for good dressed in everyday clothes put here on Earth by a God so gracious as to allow us the beauty of her presence if only for a short while and leaving the world a much colder place in her absence. In her absence, it is up to each of us to bring a bit of that warmth back wherever we can.
She is survived by her daughters: Nicole Brantley (Chris), Danielle Caramanica; brothers: John Caramanica (Paula), Steve Gorey (Jo); sister at heart: Joann Secore; step-children: Amanda Krafick (Mike), Chris Schall, Andrea Schall; grand-children: Tre’ Zaebst (Kristen Broadway), Maggie Jensen (Kyle), Viviana Caramanica; great-grandchildren: Alex, Elena, Theo, and numerous beloved extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Social Plains Baptist Church, 639 Hagwood Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597. Family and friends are invited to visit after the service in the community building. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Samaritan’s Purse or find someone to help in some small way in her honor.
Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC. www.stricklandfuneral.com.
