James Lewis McLeod
July 11, 1958 – April 18, 2026

ZEBULON – James Lewis “Louie” McLeod passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the young age of 67. He was born in Wake Co. to the late Joseph Ray McLeod Sr. and Annie Pearl Lee Wells.

Louie was always the life of the party and time in his presence was never short on laughs with his hilarious stories. He had a big heart and loved his family. Living life in the fast lane, you’d be lucky to catch him in high school and if you played against him in softball, you’d want to “walk him” or he’d put the ball over the fence and into the parking lot. He loved good food and good music and in his later years, his Sunday “fellowship” with his brothers and sisters at Pilot Baptist church was the highlight of his week.

Louie is survived by his son, Drew McLeod (Kirsty); his grandchildren, Phoebe McLeod and Jamie McLeod; his siblings, Debbie Finch (Bruce) and Joey McLeod (Jennifer) and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00AM at Pilot Baptist Church, located at 8103 NC Hwy 39 of Zebulon, NC on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with visitation from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pilot Baptist Church under “Missions”

Arrangements are entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591.  www.stricklandfuneral.com

So sorry to hear the passing of Lew. He was a gentle giant for sure. I’ll miss the guy I met when I just had started playing softball back in 1978. I met Louie at the constan car wash when he was writing tickets. We starting talking and became friends every since. We got together when he first got married and had a little boy named Drew. He was Louie’s light for life. We traveled many roads together and till we got old. We stayed in touch everyday for 35 years or more. He loved to play softball, Throw horseshoes and playing cards. And most of all. Loved to eat anything. I just wanted to say my heart is broken and I’ll miss ole Lew. Go hit that softball over the mountains Louie. FLY HIGH Buddy and say high to all the ones that went before you. Love you brother and I’ll never forget you! Billy

Never a dull moment with this teddy bear of a man friend of mine. I am thankful that he was a part of my life. I’m most grateful for the love and support he gave to me and my family for several years as I took care of my parents during their twilight – he was always so kind and gentle with them. Louie and I shared many wonderful trips, great meals, and so, so many laughs. His memory is a blessing to me.

Louie and Cherry invited me for dinner one night and they introduced me to my husband. He lived next to them . So much fun and definitely the life of the party. My prayers going out to the entire family.

Louie was always upbeat and treated everyone like a friend . He was one of the people I think about when remembering High School days. My heart goes out to his family.

I knew Louie from way back when we lived in Worthdale. I am just shocked! I didn’t know he had passed. The last time I saw him was in Walmart, and he was picking up meds. and ice cream for his mama! This makes me so sad!
