James “Grey” Weathersby
November 21, 1959 – July 25, 2026
James “Grey” Weathersby, a beloved friend, dedicated fisherman, and self-proclaimed rascal, passed away peacefully at the age of 66 after a courageous battle with kidney disease.
James, affectionately known as Grey, was born to the late Charles Allen, Sr. & Jean Corbett Weathersby. The Zebulon native worked for the NC General Assembly, Fleet Division, was the sole proprietor of Led Zebulon Bar of Zebulon, NC and Greybos Deli of Clayton, NC. He also worked at the GE jet engine plant. Along with his parents, Grey was preceded in death by his niece, Elizabeth Weathersby.
Grey was a man who truly lived life on his own terms. A passionate lover of fishing, he found his greatest peace outdoors. His happiest hours were spent with a fishing rod in his hand, waiting for the next big catch or sitting quietly on his back porch watching turkeys make their way across the family farm.
To those who knew him, Grey was a character in the truest sense. He possessed a sharp wit, an infectious sense of humor, and a mischievous spirit that earned him his favorite title: a rascal. Yet, beneath that colorful exterior lay a heart of gold. He was kind and fiercely loyal, always providing a strong shoulder and encouraging words to any that needed support. Over his 66 years, Grey touched many lives leaving a legacy of love and laughter.
Though his battle with illness was long, his spirit was never defeated. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing a story, a laugh, or a quiet moment on the porch with him.
A Graveside service will begin at 10:00AM on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Zebulon Town Cemetery.
Grey is survived by his brothers, Charles Allen Weathersby, Jr. (Cathy) and William Weathersby (Jennifer); his nephews, Corbett Weathersby, David Weathersby, Alex Weathersby and his great nephews, Alford Weathersby, Charlie Weathersby and Lane Weathersby.
