ZEBULON – Gerald Thomas Gmeiner, 88, departed this life after many years of being surrounded by the ones he held dear. He was born in Lasalle County to the late Elmer Bernard and Winifred Weber Gmeiner. Gerald grew up in Illinois and later graduated from Marquette University, Class of 1958, with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. His achievements took him very far in life, including a very successful career with GE for 19 years and later retiring from Square D. In his spare time, he loved his guns and hunting, even riding his motorcycle when he wasn’t busy with yard work. He spent his life caring greatly for his family whom he loved unconditionally. As a husband, father, grandfather , great grandfather, and great great grandfather, he leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment and loyalty. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Ann Gmeiner Brandner and his grandson, Geoffrey Thomas Gmeiner Jr.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. Eugene Catholic Church located at 608 Lions Club Rd., Wendell NC 27591 at a later date.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 65 amazing years, Joan Ann Bergagna Gmeiner; daughter, Giann Marie Gmeiner Inskeep; sons, Greg Gmeiner (Carolyn) and Geoffrey Thomas Gmeiner, Sr. (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Jaimi Inskeep Tuttle (Ryan), Jenifer Gmeiner Bahamon (Hernan), Jacqy Gmeiner Reyes (Daniel), Kevin Gmeiner (Jenifer), Maryea Gmeiner, Nicole Gmeiner and Natalie Gmeiner; great grandchildren, Rayden, Evelyn, Bodhi, Elyanna, Selena and Blaze; and his great great grandchild, Adrian.
