Garland Price
October 31, 1943 – January 10, 2024

Garland Price, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 10th. He was born in Franklin County and son to Laura Price Doyle (stepfather, Jessie). Garland loved his wife, who loved and supported him in any of his tasks that she could. He loved his children and grandchildren more than anything in this world. He was a hardworking family man. His motivation to work hard daily stemmed from his deep love for his family. Garland labored as a mechanic and greens keeper at Zebulon Country Club for 63 years. He took great pride in getting up every morning and going to work. There was never a job that Garland could not do. He not only worked 7 days a week on the golf course but he also milled lumber that he stored for projects, such as his shop that his grandson Christopher “Gig” helped him build. He also participated in growing and harvesting hay for himself and for friends, especially with his best friend Hill Gay. They also shared a love of having their mules and wagons, which they would take on Sunday rides with their families in tow.

Garland was a well-mannered gentleman that would hold doors open and remove his hat when he sat to dine. He was a great role model for his two sons, grandson and many young men that worked on the golf course over the years. He taught respect and manners, such as “yes sir, no ma’am” to those around him. Garland had a great love of animals, especially horses and dogs. He had many different breeds of hunting dogs for sport hunting. He was a member of the Down East Beagle Club. He also enjoyed his horses and being a past president of the Central Carolina Western Horse Association (CCWHA). He was active outdoors all his life and had a tender heart. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Edward Price, a grandson, Christopher Wayne Price, and a sister, Peggy Davenport.

A visitation will be held 4-5 pm Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home in Wendell. His funeral will be held at 3 PM, Sunday at the Zebulon Country Club and will be laid to rest at Pearce’s Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, JoAnn Wilson Price of the home, his son Carl Wayne “C.W” Price (Jennifer), grandchildren , Joseph Price (Brittney), Katlynn Price (Caleb Darr), Carla Price, great grandchildren, Christopher James Price and Adaleigh Jane Price as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Through many years of hard work in the occupations he worked in, Garland had a special love for Dr. Heber Windley, Tom Windley, David Windley, Brian Gay, Greg Gay, and Sam Wood.

Flowers welcomed, or memorials may be made to the Down East Beagle Club.

Arrangments are entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC 27591.

Garland and Joann made quite the impact on the error of my life when I was in my 30’s. Garland and Joann were huge advocates when we built the our Horse Arena in Pilot. They supported us throughout the Building of the Arena and were a huge part of supporting us every week while working at the Horse facility once we go things up and running. I have many precious and fond memories of the Horse banquets we attended and the time we spent with them over the years. Joann taught me how to make my first biscuits. Garland and Joann made such a positive impact on my life and I will be grateful to them forever. All My Love, Kathy
