Freddie Gene Batten

March 26, 1946 – February 19, 2021

WENDELL – Freddie Gene Batten, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Friday. He was born in Johnston County to the late Andrew & Sadie Wall Batten. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Beverly Barham Batten and by his brother Nelson Batten. Freddie loved his wife tremendously and enjoyed spending time tending to his hummingbirds and his tomatoes. He also enjoyed model trains and his FCC Amateur Radio license assisted him in becoming an accomplished builder and award-winning flyer of model airplanes. Freddie also was a vocal fan of Duke University, where his strong spirit helped him survive over 20 years after having a heart transplant there.

He is survived by his children, Steven Batten (Cheryl), Vickie Peters (David), his sister Carolyn B. Holbrook, and 4 grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service 2 pm, Tuesday, Baptist Tabernacle Church, 1599 NC-231, Wendell. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Family will receive friends after service. Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell. www.stricklandfuneral.com.

    Family I am sorry to hear of Freddie passing. But we do know that he is no longer in any pain and he is no longer digging. May God bless each of you during this time of grieving . Cherish the memories. Love you all.

    So sorry for your loss. Praying for comfort & peace for the entire family. Freddie & Beverly were dating when she lived with me & my family in Raleigh & worked for the telephone company.
