Franklin Chester Woods
August 28, 1953 – March 7, 2024

ZEBULON – The family and friends of Franklin Chester Woods, 70, are saddened to announce his passing on Thursday, March 7th. Franklin was born in Essex County, New York to late parents Vain and Hilda Taylor Woods. His entire life was dedicated to serving his community, not only as a Retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, but also as a retired Fire Chief at Hopkins Fire Department. Outside of work, he was a loving father to his children and husband to his wife of thirty-eight years, Gail Daughtry Woods.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vain and Hilda Woods; brother, Nicholas Woods; brother-in-laws, William Keith and Norman Dolbeck; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Franklin is survived by his wife, Gail Woods; daughters, Amy Holcombe (Corey) and Shannon Brassard; brother, Eugene Woods (Linda); sisters, Joan Keith, Virginia Hulrburt (Alfred), Deborah Dolbeck, and Allyson Booth (Mark); sister-in-law, Robin Woods; aunt, Anna Wallace (Sonny); treasured friend, Randy Collier (Christine); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 16th from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory in Wendell, NC. There will be a memorial service following the visitation at 3:00 pm.

Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.

    Frank was a true hero. He served his country honorably in the armed forces and then as a first responder. I am honored to have known him and to have called him a friend and Chief. I am praying for comfort for his family.

    So sorry to hear about Frank. Frank did a lot for the Fire Service in Wake County.

    Frank was a very special Chef and friend of the Hopkins 🔥Dept.and community!He was my son’s (Darren(Duck) Allen) chef when he was a fireman at Hopkins! Thanks Frank for a job well done!RIP .
