Fannie Mae Gay Wootton


Fannie Mae came to her earthly home November 25, 1930, born to William Ivan Gay, Sr. and Stancy Mae Pearce Gay. She left her earthly home for her heavenly home on Friday September 16, 2011 after a 3 year courageous pulmonary fibrosis battle.

Fannie Mae graduated from Wendell High School in 1949 and went to work for Todd Electric Company in August, 1949 and retired August, 1991. It was there that she met her future husband, Jimmie R. Wootton. They were married June 16, 1951 at Hephzibah Baptist Church. She then joined and faithfully attended Wendell United Methodist Church where she kept the nursery and taught the kindergarten class for many years. She was a member of the Kitchen Sunday School Class which was very special to her as was the Sunday School Teacher, Ed Morrell. Fannie Mae loved doing for others and enjoyed genealogy research with her cousin, Stella. They spent countless hours researching at courthouses, libraries and cemeteries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Linda Sue Wootton; brothers, Billy Gay and Willard Gay; her niece, Shawn Gay Todd; and her loving and devoted nephew, Bill Gay.

Surviving are her husband and caretaker, Jimmie R. Wootton; her loving, and devoted daughter, Donna Jean Horton (Bobby); her brother, Rev. William Ivan Gay, Jr. (Ann); and precious pets and companions, Mollie, Sassie and Lucy.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 18, 2011, Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC, with services following at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. William Ivan Gay, Jr. and Rev. Trip Lowery. Burial to follow at Greenmount Cemetery, Wendell.
