Estelle “Jackie” Price Owens

Estelle “Jackie” Price Owens passed away peacefully Saturday, September 2 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

She was born in Wake Forest NC July 26, 1921; the daughter of the late Leonard and Ila Mae Buffalo.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, James Ernest Price, by her second husband Floyd Owens, Jr. , by her sister Mozelle Bunting and her brother Brice Buffalo.

She is survived by her son James Ernest Price, Jr. and wife Linda of Littleton NC , daughter Priscilla Shearon and husband Winston of College Station TX , grandchildren Michael Price and wife Cynthia of Severna Park MD, Janet Hudson and husband Donald of Forsythe GA, Christopher Shearon and wife Fran of Houston TX, Jennifer Winter and husband Matthew of Anderson, SC, great grandchildren Samantha Price, USMC Lt Sean Price, Andrew Winter, Nolan Winter, Estell Shearon, Ellie Shearon, Barrett Winter and Brody Winter.

She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh after spending her childhood years in Johnston County. She retired from Westinghouse Meter Plant in 1987. She was a member of Emanual Baptist Church in Raleigh where she was active until she moved to her current assisted living residence at Independence Village in 2003.

Estelle was fiercely independent, a devoted mother who loved her family passionately. Her relationship with God as was evident by Bibles found on her coffee table and at her bedside. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved shopping and reading and rarely missed a day going through the Raleigh N&O. She lived independently in her final years until her recent illness at age 96.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hales Chapel Baptist Church 13396 Nc Highway 39, Zebulon, NC 27597.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 9 at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W 3rd Street, Wendell NC from 12 Noon until 1 PM. A graveside service will follow at Hales Chapel Baptist Church 13396 Nc Highway 39, Zebulon, NC 27597, after which the family will host a reception at the church fellowship hall.
