ELMA L. HEDGEPETH BOWEN

September 21, 1932 – July 3, 2012

ZEBULON – Elma Lee Hedgepeth Bowen, 79, died Tuesday, after a short period of declining health.  She was born in the Township of Falkland, in Pitt Co., daughter of the late Herman Lee & Llewellyn Harris Hedgepeth.  She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Erma Lee Hedgepeth, brother, B. F. Hedgepeth, and her husband Wilbur Bowen.

Elma and her family moved from Farmville to Zebulon in 1970 and made it their home for 42 years.  She graduated from Florida University correspondence course and became a Food Service Director.  In 1978 she was Food Service Director at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh, and worked there for 25 years until retirement in 2003.

Elma loved spending time with family and friends as well as coordinating parties and events.  Her greatest love was sharing the Bible’s message with others and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 63 years.

Surviving: daughter & son-in-law, Debrah Lee  and Brad Hild, granddaughter, Megan Lee Hild; brother & sister-in-law; Bob & Carolyn Hedgepeth of Rocky Mount; sister & brother-in-law; Margaret & Larry Jones of Whitakers; sisters-in-law; Linnie Rae Hedgepeth, Irma Barnette, & Lillie Dean Bowen of Snow Hill; brother-in-law, Milton Bowen of Hookerton, several nieces nephews, and a host of friends.

Private memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Zebulon.
