I did not know Herb, nor did I know he was right here in Zebulon. I may have seen him a few times as a child at his Stovall someplace. I thought the world of his mother, Miss Rosa an he dad, Mr Fred was a neat guy. They were great folks. For that reason I extend sincere sympathies to the family.

I worked with Mavis for many years. I knew Herb. I am also a Granville County native. They were a great couple. All of you have my sympathy for your loss.

Herb was my dentist and a good friend for a long time. I have many memories of our service to the community as members of the Raleigh Chapter of Ambucs. May God bless the Gutherie family as we remember Herb and Mavis.

I am sorry to hear about Carlton. James sent me an e-mail Sunday. My parents were Bill and Margaret Guthrie. I am one of the twins, Mary Guthrie Herbowy. Carlton and I sent e-mails back and forth for the last few years. He had not mentioned that he was sick. Fred and Rosa were the best. May he rest in peace now.

Dr Herb was a member of Clan Guthrie-USA, Inc and first served on its Board of Directors in 1993. Herb and his wife, Mavis, helped organize and participated annually in Scottish Highland Games across the USA representing his Scottish ancestry. Dr Herb was proud to represent his Irish/Scottish roots and he enjoyed his fellowship with other Guthries participating in Clan-sponsored tours of Scotland. Clan Guthrie will miss Herb, but for the strong belief that God is saving him and his wife, Mavis (who preceeded him) a special place in Heaven.
