Dorcas Bynum Holt

Dorcas Bynum Holt

Dorcas Bynum Holt, 72, of Wilmington, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 30, 2019.

Dorcas was born in Craven County and was raised on the family farm in Maysville, North Carolina. She graduated from Jones Central High School in 1965. Throughout her life, she enjoyed a variety of administrative assistant positions and developed lasting friendships everywhere she worked.

Dorcas was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and the most loyal friend one was lucky enough to have. She loved her Lord, family, friends, and music, especially Gospel and Beach music. Her family was her greatest blessing and her favorite saying was, “Thank you Jesus!” Dorcas never met a stranger and had a special way of connecting with people from all walks of life and loved making others laugh. She had a zest for life and embraced new adventures. She was well-traveled throughout her life and proud to have visited 46 states in the USA, much of Europe, and The Holy Land.  Dorcas loved spreading the gospel and would rejoice in telling everyone she met about her unwavering love for her Savior. We know that she is happily reunited with many loved ones and is shagging in Heaven.

Dorcas is survived by her daughter Karen Norris of Wilmington, her step-daughter Dawn Hall of Chapel Hill; her sister Janice Bynum, her brother Billy Bynum, and sister-in-law Debbie Bynum, and her brother-in-law Jimmy Gillette; grandsons Andrew and Mason Norris, Connor Hall, and Clay Reynolds; granddaughters Nicole and Brittany Reynolds; as well as several beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dorcas is preceded in death by the love of her life, Dr. Henry F. Holt, her parents William C. and Jessie O. Bynum, her sister Kay Gillette, and step-daughter Donna Holt.

Dorcas loved children and donated to many children’s charities throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a children’s charity of your choice, in honor of Dorcas.

Visitation will take place Sunday, November 3, from 1 PM – 2:30 PM at Strickland Funeral Home located at 211 West 3rd Street, Wendell, North Carolina 27591. Funeral and Entombment services to follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens located at 809 West Gannon Avenue, Zebulon, North Carolina 27597.
