ZEBULON – Verna Delenia Batchelor Lewis, 86, of the Pilot Community died Saturday at home surrounded by her family. A native of Franklin County she was daughter to the late Ervin & Martha Mullen Batchelor. Delenia had a kind and loving heart. She always took care of others be it with a warm smile or making pies, candies, custards, all types of food for people in the community. Even when she couldn’t get out she would cook for others and make sure they got it. She sang in her church choir and loved her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Bennie W. Lewis.
Funeral service 2 pm, Tuesday, Social Plains Baptist Church with burial in the Lewis family cemetery.
She is survived by her son; Walter Lynn Lewis & wife Judeane of Pilot, granddaughter; Lindsay Patterson & husband Jason, grandson; Caleb Lewis & wife Scottie, sisters; Mayola Weaver of Butner & Alice Berry & husband Bill of Maiden, brother; Marshall Batchelor of Pilot, special niece; Brenda Judd of Colonial Beach, VA, sisters -in-law; LaRue Batchelor & Peggy Lewis, and several nieces and nephews.
