May 11, 1942 – September 6, 2022
WENDELL – Claude Lawrence “Larry” Vaughan III, 80, made his transition from this life on Tuesday, September 6. He was born May 11, 1942 in Bibb County, GA to the late Claude Lawrence and Francanna Clark Vaughan, Jr. Larry was raised in Shelby, NC, became an Eagle Scout and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from N.C. State. He owned a business working as a Landscape Architect. Doing what you love and loving what you do was evident away from work by his pure enjoyment for being outdoors, caring for his plants and working in the yard. First and foremost, all his family he loved! Road trips around the United States of America. His Cheshire cat smile would make everyone laugh. He could tell you Latin names of trees and plants along the road when on family travels. Larry was also once President of the Wendell Rotary Club, winner of the Paul Harris Award and a member of the Wendell Planning Board. He was preceded by siblings, Bruce Vaughan & Francanna “Anna” Vaughan Matthews.
Larry is survived by his wife, Anne Bilisoly Vaughan; children, Bourke Vaughan (Amanda) and Francanna Wilson Vaughan; grandchildren, Jonah Bourke Vaughan and Micha David Lawrence Vaughan; brother, Alan Grady Vaughan (June), sisters-in-law, Lucrece Glover (Danny), Elizabeth “Beth” Potter (Ed), numerous nieces, nephews, & extended family.
Flowers welcomed or memorials may be made the American Society of Landscape Architects, https://www.asla.org/donate.aspx or your local Rotary Club.
A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, September 11 at 2:00pm with visitation following the service at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St, Wendell, NC 27591.

Anne, Bruce and I are so sorry for your loss. We will miss Larry terribly and we will always remember how he enjoyed our Super Bowl parties.
Anne, I was so happy to meet you and Larry at Minnie’s potluck some years ago. We’ve certainly had some challenges since then but now have more in common in loss of our companions. I’m sure Larry will remain in your heart and in your memories as he will for so many others.
