WENDELL – Clarissa (Kissie) Lee Huyck Morrell, age 79, departed her earthly home on March 29, 2024 for her heavenly home. Kissie was born on October 6, 1944 to the late Clement Lee and Dorothy Reed Huyck. In addition to her father and mother, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jo Hilker of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Kissie is survived by her other sister, Stella Holmes, and her husband, Ed, and by her nieces Claire Holmes and Aline (Matt) Hauber of Baltimore Maryland, and Elizabeth Stecz (Matt) of St. Louis, Missouri and nephew, Kenneth Hilker (Erica) of Baltimore, Maryland.

Kissie leaves behind many family and friends who mourn her loss. Among those are her loving husband Edward, her life partner of almost 60 years. Kissie loved and was proud of her family. She and Ed have two sons, Dean (Karen) and Brian (Lisa). Kissie also loved dearly her grandchildren, Justin, Mia, Walker and Lily. Justin is a manager at an investment company in Miami, Florida. Mia is a doctoral student in physics at NYU. Walker is in his second year at Harvard Law School and Lily is a member of the staff at the University of Notre Dame.

Kissie was a loving wife who devoted herself to raising her boys and working alongside and supporting her husband, Ed, in his business endeavors. She helped Ed start their Mortex Corporation. She became the manager of the company’s outlet store which she ran for twenty years. Her store was popular and she had many friends who would shop there. Kissie always had a smile and a positive word for everyone.

She loved her Lord and worshipped each Sunday at Wendell United Methodist Church. She was loved by her husband, Ed, by her family, by her church family, and by the countless friends in the community. She was also loved by special friends Francis and Tom Barry, Susan and Nelson White and Marisela Moreno.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kissie’s memory will be appreciated for United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1925, Wendell, NC 27591.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ann Marie Lorenz and Jordan Belli of Amedisys Hospice and Sandy Lamm for extraordinary Home Care.

Ed and the members of Kissie’s family would like to express their thanks for your prayers and visits during this difficult period. Your kindness will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Wendell United Methodist Church, 129 N. Main St., Wendell NC with a memorial visitation from 12:00pm to 1:00pm prior to service.

Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W Third St., Wendell NC

    Mr. Morrell, I am so very sorry to hear of Kissie’s passing. She was such a lovely person, kind to everyone. The sweetest soft voice……. I always enjoyed talking with her over the years, and helping out in the store. My deepest sympathies to you and all your family.

    Her sweet, sweet spirit will always linger in the hearts of those who knew her. Her friendship was a special blessing over the years, and I will miss her kind presence, welcoming smile, gentle laugh, and encouraging affirmation for all.
