Charles Thomas Jones

Charles Thomas Jones, 90, peacefully left his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 16, 1933 in Robeson County, NC to the late Marvin Oxendine and Nancy Bell Jones.

Charles graduated from Magnolia High School, Class of 1953. He then enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. During his time of service, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was proud to serve his country. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Hilda Brayboy Jones and they shared 62 years together until her death on January 12, 2018. From this union were born six children: Audrey McSwain (Al), Jennifer Lambert, Selena Veazey (Ronny), Mary Amaret Jones, Carolyn Jones and Charles David Jones (Kimberly). Grandchildren: Philip Parker(Megan), Chad Jones (Jamie), Grant Jones (Libby), Josh McSwain (Jenn), Amaret Velazquez-Newsome (Miguel), Justin Ellis (Ashley), Chase Jones and Connor Jones. He had nineteen great grandchildren whom he enjoyed and adored. Charles is also survived by his beloved dog, Sadie.

Charles is survived by six siblings: Kermit Chavis, Jr. (Carolyn), Flora Dismukes, James Wilson Chavis, Rural Chavis (Mavis), Hulen Chavis (Barbara), Bobby Chavis (Darlene). In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons: Brandon Veazey and Cody Minor, siblings: Flonnie B. Smith and Linda J. Emanuel, son- in- law: Gene Lambert and his faithful companion: Spike.

Charles was a long distance truck driver for over 45 years for various area logistic companies. He was a dedicated member of Clyde’s Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a proud member of VFW Post 148, Wendell, NC.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 21 from 2-3 pm at Clyde’s Chapel Baptist Church with the funeral service beginning at 3 pm. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Charles requested donation be made to the Hilda Jones Choir Room fund (payment made to CCBC and note the above) or to VFW Post 148, Wendell, NC.On behalf of the family, we would like to thank Dennis Bullock for the exceptional care given to our father.
