In Loving Memory of Charles (Sonny) Stanley Komer
August 28, 1940 – September 29, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Sonny Komer, who left this world surrounded by love and cherished memories.
Born on August 28, 1940, in Washington County, Pennsylvania, he spent his formative years in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he became a standout athlete at Cradock High School, excelling in both football and baseball. His passion for sports was matched only by his dedication to hard work and family.
He built a successful career with PPG Industries as a Regional Sales Manager before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit and opening his own business, Paint Supply. His work ethic and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
A true outdoorsman, he found joy and peace in nature—whether hunting in the woods or casting a line on a quiet lake or spending a sunny afternoon on the golf course, a sport he deeply loved. He was also deeply committed to his community, serving as President of the Catholic Club, where he fostered fellowship and service.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Naomi and Walter Komer. He is survived by his devoted sister Beverly Morgan; his three children, Mark Komer (Lynn), Beth Fuller (Don), and Ray Komer; and his four grandchildren, Lauren Komer, Haley Komer, Rebecca Davis, and Dillon Davis (fiancée Maddie). He also leaves behind his niece Kristin Mateo (Sue), nephew Kevin Morgan (Mary), and a wide circle of friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
To know him was to love him. He was the sweetest, kindest man in the world, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled. His legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The world is a darker place without him, but we find comfort in the light he brought to our lives and the memories we will carry forever.
Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. 3rd Street, Wendell, NC 27591, www.stricklandfuneral.com.

Sonny and I have been friends for over 40 years. We met playing in a touch football league. Most times Sonny and I were on the same team. He was a great athlete and many of those games we won. Sonny I think we can finally confess, we were running pick plays. We had some great times together and Sonny was a true friend, but also as tough as they come. One time I injured my head in a game and he drove me to emergency room where doctor on call said I needed a plastic surgeon, Sonny then drove me to that plastic surgeon and on the way we were drinking apricot brandy out of bathroom paper cups. I will miss my friend dearly but I am also glad that he is finally out of pain. RIP my friend.
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, Beth
Beth, I am sorry for your loss. If you need anything, let me know.
Tried to call and phone number was disconnected so I knew something was wrong. Sony was very special to me and the sorrow that I feel is horrible. I hope that he was not in pain and he died peacefully. I have great memories of him. Beth, I don’t know if you remember me or not but I introduced Sonny and your Mom. I am glad you took care of him and he told me that he was happy there.
Rest in peace my person. I hope there is hunting, fishing and golfing where you are. Love you always.
