Betty Gay McDade
November 12, 1931 – May 8, 2025
Knightdale – Betty Gay McDade, 93, died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at her home. She was born November 12, 1931 to the late Flora Leigh Johnson Gay and Leonard William Gay of Knightdale. Betty was the true matriarch of her family and community, always giving her time and showering them with love through any circumstance. She was a loving spouse, mother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Samuel Arthur McDade; son, Samuel Kenneth McDade; sister, Doris Evelyn Williams and brother, Wyatt Gay.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette M. Robinson (husband, Barry) of Christiansburg, VA; brother, Sherill Gay of Knightdale, NC; daughter-in-law, Debbie McDade of Wilmington, NC; grandsons, Travis Grubb of Blacksburg, VA, Ryan McDade (wife, Coy) and Eric McDade (wife, Sarah) of Wilmington, NC; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Waylon, Walker, Damien, Grady; step-grandchildren, Crystal and Vince; many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Funeral Service will take place at 2:00pm on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.
DUE TO EXPECTED INCLEMENT WEATHER, SERVICES WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE SANCTUARY OF BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH.
Flowers are welcomed or contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Betty’s memory.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Betty’s caregivers for their time and efforts during her time of need.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. McDade and I used to have good talks over the years. She was a kind lady with lots of wisdom and stories. I know how much she loved her family. My apologies for not checking in to see how she was doing, but ever since my husband passed time has flown by and we didnt visit like we used to. I’m glad she is no longer suffering and is in a better place. My sincere condolences to her family and all those who loved her. Sending prayers for peace and comfort during this time.
