Bennie Wayne Roberson

Bennie Wayne Roberson

“I’ll trade all of my tomorrow’s for just one more yesterday!” Bennie Wayne Roberson, age 60, born 11/28/58 in Dayton Ohio , went
to Rest High on that Mountain on Wednesday May 29th 2019.
Thumbin’ his way from North Carolina. He had his guitar on his back, when a stranger stopped beside him, in a Volunteer’s colored
Cadillac. He was dressed like 1958, with a cowboy hat and a gleam in his eye, He said it’s a long walk to Heaven, would you like a ride?
Son.
Well, Bennie sat down in the front seat, turned on the radio, and them sad old songs coming outta them speakers was solid country
gold. Then he noticed the stranger was ghost white pale, when he asked him for a light, and he knew there was something strange
about this ride…
The man drove him just North of those pearly gates, when he turned that car around
He said, “This is where you get off, boy, this is your stop, ‘cause your heaven bound,
So, Bennie stepped outta that Cadillac, and said, “Mister, many thanks”
He said, “You don’t have to call me mister, mister, the whole world calls me Haaaaaaaaaaank”
The Man said, “Mister, you make folks cry when you play and sing!
You have paid your dues! You can moan the blues!
You can bend them guitar strings!”
He said, “Boy, we know that you can make folks feel what you feel inside…
Bennie, you’re heaven bound and let me warn you your in for a real nice ride”
When Bennie got to where he was goin’, On the far side of that blue sky,
the first thing that he did, was he spread his wings to fly.
He took a walk with his ole’daddy, his momma matched them step for step,
he told them how much that he missed and loved them both, and then he hugged their neck.
Yeah, when Bennie got to where he was goin’, he began strumming his old six string,
thinking about his loving wife Renee, that’s when we heard him begin to sing,
“The First time that we met, is a favorite memory of mine, they say time changes all it pertains to, but your memory is stronger than
time.
I guess everything does change, except what you choose to recall, there’s a million good daydreams to dream on, but baby, you are
my favorite memory of all!
In a hundred years from now, I know without a doubt, they’ll all look back and wonder how, we made it all work out.
Chances are my dear, we’ll go down in history, and when they want to see, how true love should really be, they’ll just look at us!
Well country music singin’ has always been a part of this family, that all of Bennie’s kinfolk began to sing along to the melody.
His brother Ed grabbed up his bass, and began to pick those strings just right, while Bennies sisters Shirley, Sallie and Pam sang his
song loud into that clear spring night.
His brothers James and Tom joined in the fun just a clappin and a hummin’, that night the farewell party kept a rockin, and the music
just kept a commin’.
Bennie’s children began to sing along Sarah, Jason and Joe, while his 7 grandbabies were dancing and scootin’ on that dance floor just
a stealing the show.
His cousins, in laws, nieces and nephews, friends and family, partied hard till the sun came up the next day, content, rejoicing that he
is now free.
Now the party it was windin’ down, the music it stood still. there was nothing left to say ‘cause we all knew that it was Gods will.
Oh, how we cried the day you left us, we gathered ‘round to grieve, we all wish we could see the angels’ faces, when they hear your
sweet voice sing.
We all gave our love and shed some tears, bid Bennie, pops, Dad, Honey, Grand Pa and Old Man a sad goodbye, each one of us told
him that we loved him as he gently closed his eyes.
We told him of how we will rejoice, and be with him again to pick n grin, when God decides to open his pearly gates, and invite us all
in.
So, now it’s time to go rest high on that mountain, your work on earth is done,
go to heaven a shoutin’, love for the father and the son… We love you!
As we remember a glorious life, Bennie’s memorial services will be held at Strickland Funeral home located at 211 W. Third St,
Wendell, NC 27591 on Saturday June 1st from 10:30am- 12:00pm (viewing) and memorial service from 12:00pm – Till. For those who
want to give something, the family has asked for indoor or outdoor plants for a memorial garden at their home or a remembrance gift

I only knew Bennie for the last few years, but he has had a profound impact on my life. He went from a customer to a friend to a brother. He’ll be missed by all of us that had the good fortune to cross paths with him. Please Rene let me know if there is anything Toni & I can ever help you with.

We were very sorry when we found out that preacher bennie had left us. BUT we will see him again before long. we would like to come and pay our respects to him but our health issues aren”t good. like the apostle Paul said “eye has not seen or ear heard what God has prepared for them who love Him.” He is having the best time of his life. We tried to find you several years ago but you had moved, we finally gave up. We know God will comfort your hearts and your memories will give you the strength to keep going till you join him in heaven.

Bennie was one of the first friends I met when my wife and I moved to North Carolina. He helped us with our office and home renovations and became a good friend of mine. We will be missed by many. Heaven gained a great man last week, as well as an amazing musician! Until we meet again…….
