Bennie Everette Oakley

Bennie Everette Oakley
December 22, 1927 – April 3, 2023

Bennie Everette Oakley, 95, went to his Heavenly home on Monday.   He was born in Durham County to the late Benjamin Franklin & Esther Boone Oakley.  He worked for First Union Bank.  Bennie saw many things change in his life and he embraced them all.  He was much like a father to his siblings when, at the age of 21, his father passed away.  During this difficult time, Bennie stepped in to care for his family, looking after his siblings and helping his mom.  Ever the family man who fought to keep his family together, Bennie will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father and brother.  Bennie had a big heart, was dearly loved, and will be deeply missed.  He was preceded in death by a son, Everette Oakley and brothers, Joe & Vernon.

He is survived by his son, Johan Oakley, sisters, Betty Hopkins (Tommy), Doris Braxton (Sherrill), Margaret White, Beulah Smith, brothers, Jesse Oakley (Geneva), Herman Oakley, George Oakley (Evelyn), & Billy Oakley.

Graveside service 2 pm, Thursday, Zebulon Town Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.  www.stricklandfuneral.com

Doris & family, so sorry for your loss. Bennie was so kind, so sweet, so humble, so patient, so loving, so giving. He was one of a kind! We loved him, prayers for all the family. You are one “special lady”, we love you too. May God continue to bless you!
