WENDELL Benjamin Gerald Franklin, Jr. 65, known to family and friends as Ben was born to the late Benjamin Gerald Franklin, Sr. & Lillian Franklin on October 20, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY. Ben attended Boys High in Brooklyn, NY where he excelled in his studies. Ben went on to join the NYC Dept of Sanitation, BK North 5 where he was a dedicated foreman and hard worker.
Ben wed in holy matrimony his best friend and life partner, Katherine Franklin on Sept. 6, 1986. From this union one child, the late Gerald Franklin was born.
After 21 years of dedication & service Ben retired in 2005. After retirement he bought a home along with his wife, Katherine in Wendell, NC. He was ecstatic to call Wendell his new home. Ben was a very passionate and caring person who in some way impacted everyone around him. He had an abundant amount of love for his wife, parents, children, siblings, grands, great grand, family and friends. He was truly a charismatic person who loved life, singing, dancing, traveling and watching sports.
After a long battle with health ailments, Ben was called home to be with the Lord in his home peacefully surrounded by his wife, children, family and friends. His faith in God provided him additional comfort.
He is predeceased in death by his father Benjamin, Sr., Mother-in-law, Anna, & son Gerald.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife & best friend, Katherine Ware Franklin of the home. His dear mother, Lillian, his brother Barry who was a very big inspiration to him, his dear brother Robert & sister, Sharon, his loving children, Ben Jr. III, Lanet, Monique, Kawanna, Kenneth, Lisa, Kina, loving grandkids, Gerald, Quianna, Kyani, Imoni, Naveena, Najshea, Zaya, Maiya, Gelissa, his loving great granddaughter, Hailey, sisters-in-law, Ruth, Mattie, Dana, Tammy, Stephanie, brothers-in-law, Arnold, Fredrick, Harry, daughters-in-law, Shadara, Kristine, son-in-law, Star, God-children, Darren, Damion, Daniel, his brother in Christ and best friend, Howard Whitfield, a host of nieces, nephews aunts, uncles, cousins, family & friends, his favorite pet Sheba.
The family would like to send special thanks to WakeMed Staff, Transitions Lifecare, Pastor Aaron and staff of Hephzibah Baptist Church, Strickland Funeral Homes, Neice and Nephew Keilandi Shiloh and Andy Ebert & to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time of bereavement.
Funeral service 1 pm, Wednesday, Hephzibah Baptist Church with visitation from 11 1 pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery. Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell. www.stricklandfuneralhomes.net
