Barbara Massey

Barbara Massey

Barbara Horton Massey, 77, of Zebulon, NC (Pilot Community), went home to be with the Lord Saturday January 27, 2024,
surrounded by her family. She was born in Franklin County to the late Willie Horton Sr. and Vivian Adcock Horton.
Barbara was a graduate of Bunn High School where she played basketball and met the love of her life, Garry, whom she went
on to marry and create a loving home for their three children. Barbara loved her family dearly and set steady examples of a
strong work ethic, a fierce sense of protection, and good advice for them all along the way. Family was so important to her,
and she was a caregiver to so many through the years.

Early on she worked at Devil Dog Dungarees, Westinghouse, and went on to finish cosmetology school. She became a stylist
and soon the owner of Fantasy Hairstyling in Zebulon (1977-2024) where she made a lifetime of friends from all walks of life.
Barbara committed her life to Jesus early on and attended Rocky Cross Holiness Church where she contributed generously to
many beautification projects through the years. She always wanted to leave things better than she found them and gave
selflessly to others throughout her life. As a grandma, she began the family tradition of Monday night suppers, where she
regularly cooked and hosted family and friends each week for many years.

In her spare time, you could find Barbara working in her yard & flowers. True to her selfless nature, she often went on to work
in many yards of her family members through the years, sharing her love for flowers and home improvement with others.
Anyone who knew Barbara was sure to know she was a super-fan of Alan Jackson and had a significant collection of music,
collectibles, and memories of the many concerts with her friends and family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Willie & Vivian Horton of Bunn, sister Laura Perry of New Hope, brother Willie
(Pete) Horton Jr. of Bunn, and her infant sister Vivian C. Horton.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Garry Massey, daughter Karen Holland (William), son Steven Massey (Jill), and
daughter Sherrie Towne (Brian) all of Zebulon, NC. Grandchildren Jeremy Holland (Brooke), Ashley Vause (Derrick), Faith
Holloman (Charlie), and Jarrett Towne. Great Grandchildren Taylor Grace & Elliott Holland, and Lincoln & George Vause.
Sisters and brothers Kannie Perry, Jewel Mullen, Faye Cash, Freddie Horton (Jane), Milton Horton (Connie), and many special
nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to Rocky Cross Holiness Church Building Fund.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at 7:00 – 8:30 pm Strickland Funeral Home, 211

Mrs. Barbara was a blessing to us and we will miss her. She was so good to us sharing many wonderful meals, birthdays and Christmases with her family. We enjoyed doing many projects at our church together. She always treated us as part of her family. We’re grateful for the time spent with her. We are sorry for Garry and all the family and friends but know she’s rejoicing in heaven which gives great comfort. We loved her and we love you all. ❤️🙏🏻. Kevin and Sharon

Ms. Barbara always showed me by her actions the qualities GOD expected from HIS children. The most memorable memory I remember of Ms. Barbara was when I tried to be my own beautician growing up. She did an exceptional job of shaping up my hair. Ms. Barbara always a very classy lady. One of many impressionable older generation people I was fortunate to worship GOD with growing up. Her family will be in my thoughts and prayers. May GOD bless each family member and friends of Ms Barbara.
