BAILEY – Curtis Woodrow Harris, 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was born in Wake County to the late Woodrow Wilson Harris and Mabel Holland Harris. He was the proud proprietor of his own business, having owned and operated Harris Electric Company for 28 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Howard and Betsy Sykes.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Janice Clayton Harris; daughters, Amanda Brady (Don) and Diane Tackney (Neal); grandchildren, Morgan Jones Collier (Logan), Caitlin Tackney and Camryn Tackney; siblings, Billy Harris (Jo), Gerald Harris (Sandy), Joe Harris (Trudy) and Donna Guy.
Faithful husband, father and grandfather, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and usher in his home church in Durham, NC. He even directed Christmas plays for the church. He moved to Bailey 27 years ago and joined Bailey Baptist Church and served in the same areas in that church. He was the Building Chairman for construction of the new Fellowship Hall and Sunday School classrooms.
He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Whether or not you wanted to talk to Curtis, he was going to talk to you! He loved conversing with people.
He was an avid golfer and was quite good at it. He played until he was almost 80 years old. Almost everyone in Bailey has seen him practicing in the yard when they drove down the road.
He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held 7:30pm, Saturday, August 27, 2022, in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third Street, Wendell, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:15pm, prior to the service. Burial will take place 10am, Monday, August 29, 2022, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Road, Durham, NC.
